Still on The Road – If only…

I am still reflecting on the glorious IRD in San Diego. Over 2,000 happy people joined in celebration of the success achieved by their peers and in recognition of those efforts. The message resounded throughout each session… “This can be you!” These are Real People… this are my TOPS friends. All of us who are still in the middle of our journeys found time to reflect of our own potential and feel empowered.

Like the premise of most self-help books, we like to think that anyone can achieve anything. The part that many of us miss is the if factor; if you believe you are capable of doing the work necessary to go after the life you want. If you believe you are worth it. Learning to believe in yourself is the most important step you will ever take toward reaching your potential. You may develop a step-by-step action plan to success but if you lack the self-esteem to follow it, then it doesn’t matter…you may still be lost.

Low self-esteem is a poison that erodes the connection between our actions and our intentions. It can cause us to feel unworthy and as a result, we shy away from life rather than engaging in it. Even when we manage to overcome a setback or reach a goal, we may feel we don’t deserve the rewards so we sabotage our own success. Sadly, at our gatherings I see in the eyes of some members reflections of doubt and unworthiness. They believe they are not smart enough, fit enough or determined enough. They believe that they are too short or too tall or too fat or too flabby. I truly believe my fellow members and I can be anything we want to be. Yet it doesn’t matter what I believe…only what they believe. We must learn about the if factor; that life is full of wonderful opportunities if we believe in ourselves enough to pursue our dreams.

Do you work hard at something and then stop short of completion because you are afraid you will be unable to maintain it? Do you feel you are not smart enough, good enough or resilient enough? The good news is that each of us is capable of achieving greatness if we are willing to make the connection between our actions and our intentions. I believe in me and I believe in you. You are MORE THAN enough. You believe in you, too!
