I once had a college professor tell our class, “The nice thing about the truth is that you don’t have to remember it.” Be honest – how often do you find yourself making an elaborate excuse to get out of plans with a friend or a personal obligation? Many times, after a long day at work, following through with plans with friends or family seems like, well, more work. But, if we don’t make time for things we enjoy – like spending time with loved ones – we end up feeling more stressed in the long run.
With summer slowly winding down, pack up the car for a quick camping weekend or make time to visit with long-distance friends. Sometimes, it seems easier and less tiring to just stay home but, as Mark Twain once said, “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.” And when you return to work after a fun weekend, you’ll feel more energized, productive, and ready to tackle the next project.
Don’t waste energy making excuses for not doing the things you know you’ll enjoy. Instead, head out the door and just go for it. You’ll have fun…and the only thing you have to remember is the memories you’re making.
