My husband and I recently adopted a 5-month-old puppy named Stevie. She came to us with zero training, but the cutest little squishy face and sweet personality that would make even a non-dog lover melt. As she’s jumping on my back and eating my hair, messing in the house and chewing every household item that isn’t nailed down (and even some things that are nailed down), I have to remember one thing … patience.
Patience is a muscle that’s easy to let weaken in our busy, modern lives. We don’t have to wait through commercials anymore, instead we can just stream our favorite shows and fast forward. Gone are the days of waiting for our favorite song to come on the radio; we can listen to whatever we want to hear, whenever we want to hear it. But there’s one thing that even the most sophisticated technology cannot expedite – healthy weight loss. Sure there are apps to make tracking easier, online communities for motivation and support, and meal delivery services to make anyone feel like a gourmet chef. But you still have to put in the work and you still have to exercise patience. As many TOPS members like to say, you have to take it one day at a time, one pound at a time.
So, as easy as it can be to get frustrated with our new four-legged family member, I have to remember that training her will just take time. She won’t always nip my hands and eat my hair (hopefully). And, like most rewarding things in life, it’ll be worth the wait.

Stevie is adorable 🙂 And a great reminder!
Thanks, Nicole!
I completely agree that patience is vital for success in the weight loss realm. The quick-fix diets are seldom sustainable, so I think that making lifestyle changes is the key to healthy, long-lasting weight loss.
