I have seen many FALLING ROCKS signs during my travels. Although I’ve never seen any rocks falling as I drove by, I know it happens because they are lying by the roadside.
Being aware of hazards is important on any journey. During my attempts to follow the signs to a healthy lifestyle, I am very much aware of FALLING ROCKS. These hazards at times have caused me to DETOUR and get off track.
While you may not see FALLING ROCKS happen, they do exist on our journey to a healthy lifestyle. TOPS has helped me be aware that they are lying by the roadside.
These FALLING ROCKS are more serious than a SPEED BUMP. It is important to be fully aware of the DANGER AHEAD.
FALLING ROCKS can be listening to false INFORMATION about a quick fix way to lose weight, jeopardizing your health. Other hazards may be the struggle of going to a buffet with friends or social gatherings where food is readily available.
I suspect that we all have different hazards that may block our journey. Identifying them is the first step to help find the right ALTERNATE ROUTE.
One of the FALLING ROCKS that I dealt with early on was family and friends who did not understand what I was going through with battling obesity. As I was working my plan, they were quick to say “Oh, one piece of cake isn’t going to hurt.” Believing this would have become a huge hazard.
TOPS has taught me how to politely explain that for me, one piece would lead to another and I needed to stick to my plan. I told them that I was not on a full STOP, but I knew the right time to YIELD.
I am pleased that showing the SHARE THE ROAD sign with my family and friends has helped my journey immensely. Support and accountability are cornerstones in TOPS. However, educating people who do not understand the struggles with this dreaded disease is equally important.
Letting all know that we are always UNDER CONSTRUCTION will keep our wonderful organization on the path of its mission: to improve the knowledge of the causes and means for correcting individual overweight.
Unawareness may be the largest rock by the roadside.
I like your analogy regarding the “Caution Falling Rocks” signs…. that is truly something to “be aware of”…
Thanks for sharing.
