Life can get quite chaotic. We try to control events around us, and all we can do is our best. Making progress when things are moving along smoothly is easy, but how do we handle interruptions to the fluidity of life? We must be adaptable to the good and the bad, controlling the frustrations that creep in.
We need only to look to the night sky for another signpost to guide us—the constellation Libra, the Scales. Now, I know your first thought must be, “A scale is one of the tools that helps keep us accountable in our weight-loss efforts.” Being accountable is very important on our journey; however, let’s go beyond the number it shows us. After all, we can achieve many non-scale victories, and they are every bit as meaningful an indicator of how we are doing on our journey as the number on the scale.
For context, this association with scales and balances began with the ancient Babylonians. What Libra is really letting us know is that we must find “balance” in our lives: balance between work and play, balance between our individual wants and our family needs, and balance amidst the events we cannot control.
For example, if you have been on a plane, you have heard this instruction: “In the event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, place your oxygen mask first, then tend to others.” Unless you find time for yourself, you will not be there for others who need you. It is not being selfish but a great example of how important you are.
Balancing events in your life will not be easy. In fact, the first step may be the most difficult, but it is yours to take. Just know the rest of us will be there to support you while you prepare for the second step…and beyond. In the meantime, take time to stop and smell the roses, preferably yellow ones.
This is part three of the multipart series, “Aim for the Stars.” In my next blog, we’ll explore the constellation Orion, the Hunter.

This blog hit home for me as my zodiac sign is Libra. Since retirement, I have been taking time for me which a lifestyle change was on my priority list. Now, that I am KOPS, I want to help others to reach their lifestyle change experience.
