Making the Right Moves with TOPS: Checkmate

Regardless of whether you ever played a game of chess, you are familiar with the word CHECKMATE. This term signifies the end of the game due to a situation where the KING is in a POSITION where it cannot make any legal move to a safe square or use another piece for protection.

Yes, the game of life is often compared to chess. Both have rules and need strategic planning; players must be adaptable and make the right decisions to find balance.

However, CHECKMATE is not a term I wish to use fairly readily in my TOPS life. Sure, I have been at the end of what I thought was a good STRATEGY to achieve longevity, only to wipe things away for a new OPENING.

"The thought of a checkmate during my journey to a healthier lifestyle has always meant to me that I failed."

The thought of a CHECKMATE during my journey to a healthier lifestyle has always meant to me that I failed. Again, despite what I thought was a good SPACE to be in, my goal was not achieved.

To avoid that CHECKMATE dilemma, I needed to reduce the times I made a HOWLER. I worked on side-stepping a BLOCKADE and made the appropriate SACRIFICE to win the fight against obesity.

At times, the OVER THE BOARD feeling comes over me, and I get depressed and start what I have called a backward journey, getting closer to my highest weight in TOPS. Six times it has happened, and this last time was the closest I got. Any ADVANTAGE I had was lost.

I am happy to say that I am back in the game and no longer have that CRAMPED feeling. So far this year, I have not had a red mark (most likely I just jinxed myself). I believe I have found a new COMBINATION to follow. If I do have a gain, I will examine the recent ACTIVITY and make a course correction. I do not want another CHECKMATE.

While a CHECKMATE signals an end to the process, this is not the end of the Making the Right Moves series. There is one more term to refract on…do you know what it will be?
