Making the Right Moves With TOPS: Blockade

I finally started losing again. However, I am stuck on a hamster wheel, losing and gaining the same five pounds month to month. Some call it a plateau, others may refer to this as hitting my set point. I do not like either label. But sometimes, it feels like something is preventing me from moving forward.

A BLOCKADE in chess refers to a STRATEGY of placing a piece in front of the opposing player’s pawn to prevent advancement.

Although I am in my TOPS-Now POSITION, I still struggle with many BLOCKADES. Here are some with which I have dealt. Any sound familiar to you?

  • Depression
  • Lack of good sleep
  • Apathy
  • Binge Eating
  • Grazing or not eating enough
  • Fast food
  • Making excuses (for everything)
  • Lose control of my schedule

There are others, but you get the idea. I know I have control. I will do my best to avoid putting up a BLOCKADE. But again, knowing what to do and doing it are two different “moves”. And of course, there are BLOCKADES that are placed in front of you by other factors like:

  • Family matters
  • Tempting advertisements
  • Societal pressures
  • The game of life in general

TOPS will help me identify and remove the BLOCKADE that is halting my progress.

I need to find a different ADVANTAGE and increase my ATTACK efforts. If a BLOCKADE just lasts for a brief time, it usually will not deter my journey too much. It is the BLOCKADE that digs in, making the effort to remove it seem almost unattainable.

But remembering the lessons I learned in TOPS will help with my DEVELOPMENT. If the BLOCKADE lasts too long, I will start a new OPENING.

A game of chess is challenging, and so is the journey to a healthier lifestyle. With the support, accountability and education TOPS provides, I plan to keep going around any BLOCKADE. The key is not to give up, and I will not.

What are some of your moves to avoid the BLOCKADE?
