Personally, I think periodically <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.tops.org\/wellness-wednesday\/how-to-be-kinder-to-yourself\/\">refreshing our wellness routines<\/a> should be just as much of a priority as reorganizing the pantry or closets. Creating more time to implement healthier habits requires intentionality, focus and a heck of a lot of hard work. It takes practice \u2014 and patience \u2014 to cultivate new skills and behaviors.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is why I encourage each of you to say, \u201cNo\u201d a little more often. Skip being the one to plan the next office potluck or co-chair a volunteer committee at church. Reflect on the optional activities in your life that seem to take up a bit too much time, plus consistently leave you with less energy to meal prep, get workouts in or attend TOPS chapter meetings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, don\u2019t wait until you feel completely drained to offload these extraneous commitments. What could be cut or scaled back to have 3-5 more hours available each week for activities that support your health goals? Self-care is not <em>selfish<\/em>; it\u2019s <em>smart<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.tops.org\/wellness-wednesday\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/rach_blog_apri_9.jpg\" alt=\"How we live is what makes us real. Curate a &quot;To Don't&quot; List\" class=\"wp-image-3679\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.tops.org\/wellness-wednesday\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/rach_blog_apri_9.jpg 640w, https:\/\/blogs.tops.org\/wellness-wednesday\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/rach_blog_apri_9-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Start by &#8220;shrinking&#8221; the to-do&#8217;s that deplete your mental energy the most. And if you\u2019re worried about getting pushback from others about your well-being needs becoming more of a priority, practice saying no with a positive spin. Instead of declining an invite with \u201cNo, I can\u2019t go to book club. I don\u2019t want to ruin my diet,\u201d say, \u201cThank you for always including me, but I already got all the stuff to try this new recipe at home. Please tell everyone I\u2019ll try to pop in a different night soon.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This allows you to exit the conversation in a chill manner by reminding friends you\u2019ll likely say yes<em> <\/em>in the future. This also serves as a mental note to yourself that you are not missing out<em>,<\/em> but are instead choosing to \u201ctreat yourself\u201d in a different way. Mastering <em>the art of saying no<\/em> can be tough. However, when we keep envisioning the healthier lifestyle we\u2019re working toward, it\u2019s doable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let me know how you\u2019ve recently taken some \u201cme time\u201d in the comment box below.
