After rowing and huffing and puffing for what seemed like forever (OK, it was only about 4-5 minutes, but still) I thought to myself, \u201cIt takes <em>this <\/em>much effort to burn 50 measly calories?\u201dIt can be frustrating when you realize how long it takes to burn calories \u2026 and how quickly you can find them again. With Thanksgiving next week here in the U.S., consider how long it can take to burn off the following holiday staples*:<\/p>\n<p><strong>5-oz. serving of mashed potatoes with gravy<\/strong> = 120 calories = <strong>33 minutes of walking<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00bd cup sweet potato casserole<\/strong> = 190 calories = <strong>53 minutes of walking<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1 cup green bean casserole<\/strong> = 166 calories = <strong>19 minutes of jogging<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2-oz. serving of stuffing<\/strong> = 217 calories = <strong>25 minutes of jogging<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1 slice pumpkin pie<\/strong> = 310 calories = <strong>47 minutes of cycling<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The good news is that all foods can fit in your meal plan, in moderation. If you really want a piece of pumpkin pie, you can have it. Just make sure you budget for it. For example, you can plan to enjoy the piece of pie with a friend, push yourself a little harder during your workout or cut back on something else in your diet for that day.
