Real People… Real Decisions

Can you use both good & bad experiences as reference points for moving forward?

Although you may never have even thought about it, your brain has constructed an internal system for making decisions. This system acts like an invisible force, directing all of your thoughts, actions, and feelings, both good and bad, every moment that you live. It controls how you evaluate everything in your life, and it is largely driven by your subconscious mind.

The scary thing is that most people never consciously set this system up. Instead, it has been installed through the years by sources as diverse as parents, peers, teachers, television, advertisers, and the culture at large. The system is comprised of five components: 1) your core beliefs, 2) your life values, 3) your references, 4) the habitual questions you ask yourself, and 5) the emotional states you experience in each moment.

Anthony Robbins in his book, Awake the Giant Within, points out with crystal clarity the fact that some of us go through life without ever challenging any of these components. In truth, by changing any one of these five elements, we can immediately produce a powerful and measurable change in our lives. We don’t have to allow the programming of our past to control our present and future. Sadly, some people never reflect upon these elements. They are not able to articulate their core beliefs or life values. They don’t understand that all experiences, both good and bad, serve as reference points for moving forward. Finally, they rarely reflect upon their experiences and their responses, asking why or how something occurred. In essence, they are allowing life to happen to them, even though they have the power to be in control through the combined effect of these five elements.

Are you aware of your mind’s system for making decisions?

Do you know your core beliefs and values?

Can you state them?

Can you use both good and bad experiences as reference points for moving forward?

At the end of the day, do you reflect upon your experiences, asking the important questions of why and how they happened, and how they make you feel?

The good news is that you can override this system by making conscious decisions to change any, or all, of the five elements. You can reinvent yourself by organizing your beliefs and values in a way that moves you toward your life’s design.

Don’t wait for life to just happen….help make it happen as you wish it to be. Start today!

I care, Barb
